Graduate Assistant Position opening


Hiring Department: Achieving College Excellence (ACE)        
Position Title: Graduate Assistant
Position Time: Part time (20 hours), 12 months (August 2012 – August 2013)              
Compensation: Full-time graduate assistantship (stipend plus full-time tuition benefits)
Reports to: De’Sha Wolf, Ph.D., Project Director

The mission of the Loyola University Chicago Achieving College Excellence (ACE) program is to serve and support students who qualify as low-income, first in their families to pursue a bachelor's degree, and/or have a documented disability. As ACE Scholars progress through their academic career, we provide the tools and strategies necessary for academic achievement, year-to-year persistence, college graduation, and enrollment in graduate and professional school.


The Graduate Assistant for the Achieving College Excellence (ACE) Program is a 12-month professional appointment in Academic Support Services at Loyola University Chicago. The Graduate Assistant will provide assistance with program assessment, tracking of student participation, and preparation of reports for the University and the U.S. Department of Education. These professional experiences will provide opportunities in data and project management, survey development, assessment and evaluation of program services, and report writing.


Duties and Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
·   Develop and administer questionnaires to measure workshop outcomes.
·   Assist with preparation of the U.S. Department of Education’s Annual Performance Report and annual program evaluation.
·   Assist with preparation of various institutional reports.
·   Update program tracking databases for continuing students and program graduates.
·   Produce monthly reports on program participation and usage of services.
·   Analyze and evaluate applicable programs for effectiveness; collaborate with the ACE team to design and implement changes to improve program services.
·   Meet bi-weekly with the ACE team.
·   Attend events, forums, colloquiums, and other events that relate to the goals and objectives of the program.
·   Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:
·   Master’s degree; currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Loyola University Chicago in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or other appropriate field.
·   Previous experience with program evaluation, assessment, and/or outcome-driven research.
·   Demonstrated competency with record-keeping, documentation and data management.
·   Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·   Proficiency with database management programs, including Microsoft Access and SPSS, and other Microsoft Office products.
·   Must be detail oriented.
·   Must be able to work independently.
·   Commitment to serving disadvantaged student populations including first generation college students, low-income students, and students with disabilities.

Preventive Medicine Grand Rounds July 17

Dr. Jyotsna Jagai from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will present: Modeling Waterborne Health Risks. Dr. Jagai is a researcher in the National health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory and will be visiting Loyola On July 17.  Information on viewing presentation via web will be sent to all enrolled students.  For more information contact us at mph@lumc.edu

The Loyola Sexual Assault Advocacy line is hoping to recruit a few more graduate students who might be interested in becoming volunteer advocates for the upcoming 2012/2013 school year. If you are a trained sexual assault advocate and would like to get real experience helping others, or if you are simply interested in making Loyola a more survivor-friendly place please consider volunteering for the Loyola Sexual Assault Advocacy line. Your volunteer position will take place during the 2012/2013 school year.
