Listening to Killers Seminar Streaming tomorrow at 4 pm

Join the the Civitas ChildLaw Center Weekly Coffee Talk Series tomorrow (Wednesday 3/29) at 4 pm: Listening to Killers

Listening to Killers offers an inside look at twenty years' worth of murder files from Dr. James Garbarino, a leading expert psychological witness who listens to killers so that he can testify in court. The author offers detailed accounts of how killers travel a path that leads from childhood innocence to lethal violence in adolescence or adulthood. He places the emotional and moral damage of each individual killer within a larger scientific framework of social, psychological, anthropological, and biological research on human development. By linking individual cases to broad social and cultural issues and illustrating the social toxicity and unresolved trauma that drive some people to kill, Dr. Garbarino highlights the humanity we share with killers and the role of understanding and empathy in breaking the cycle of violence.

The seminar will be streamed live at:

Spring 2015 MPH Leadership Day

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, April 11 from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, we will have our Semi-Annual Leadership Day Conference.

Leadership Day is offered every semester to our MPH students. This day-long  interactive event focuses on professional development.

Each Leadership Conference covers different topics, and we highly encourage you to participate in as many as you can. In general, the days are designed to expose students to topics such as job seeking
strategies, resume/CV writing and presentation, professional communication, public speaking and scientific writing. In addition, these are an opportunity to meet public health professionals and to learn about their practices, and how they address important issues in the field.

For this semester's Leadership Day, we will have workshops in networking and communication skills and a presentation by Jennifer McGowan, a policy analyst who served in the Illinois Governor's Office for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the state.

Come join us! Lunch will be served.

Please RSVP to iberzin@lumc.edu no later than  Monday, April 6th.
