Esperanza
Community Housing Corporation is a twenty-five-year old social justice
non-profit, working to achieve comprehensive community development in
South Central Los Angeles. Esperanza strives to meet the most pressing
needs of neighborhood residents, strengthen children and families
through developing affordable housing, promoting access to health
education and quality care, providing art and cultural opportunities,
and stimulating economic development and ensuring environmental justice.
Esperanza strives always to build hope with the community. Esperanza is
a local leader in community land use campaigns and the movement toward
health and human rights. Responsibilities: Esperanza is seeking a
multi-skilled, creative and articulate individual, with manifest
social-justice integrity and human rights principles, and fund
development experience, to assume the role of Development Director
responsible for grants, fundraising, communications, and publications.
The Development Director provides leadership to the organization’s
efforts to obtain financial and other support to sustain its work;
approaches to individuals, foundations and corporations; manages the
overall marketing and promotional functions to construct and market an
appropriate image; develops ties with the community, and achieves
membership/participation goals; manages department budgets; and
participates as a member of the senior management team to formulate and
implement policies and plans to meet the organization’s short and long
term objectives. Esperanza’s five program areas include a number of
renowned, model programs related to community health access,
environmental justice, arts and culture, and the Mercado la Paloma
(www.mercadolapaloma.com) our economic development project. The
Development Director will be guided by the mission and values of the
organization.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor or comparable degree
• Demonstration of successful proposal writing and grant reporting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well within a collaborative team
• Ability to communicate effectively with community members, staff, Board, funders, etc.
• Bilingual (Spanish//English), preferred
• Desk-top publishing/graphic design experience preferred
