Active Transportation Alliance Event Internship
Put some real experience on your resume! The Chicago region’s premier transportation advocacy non-profit, Active Transportation Alliance, is seeking part-time event intern assistance from students (non-students will also be considered) interested in a career in event/sports management, event marketing and production and volunteer management.
The Active Trans event team produces the MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive, one of the largest bicycling events in the country, Four Star Bike Tour and the Bike Commuter Challenge. Interns gain valuable practical experience in event production by working on these events. The ideal candidate will assist with all aspects of pre-production and event management, including permitting, vendor and sponsor management, volunteer coordination, route mapping and day-of-event logistics.
Event Logistics
• Secure and manage select vendors
• Assist with layout of rest stops and festival area
• Assist with inventory & ordering of event supplies
• Assist with permitting process
• Assist with route creation and mapping
Event Support
• Assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination
• Serve as event director assistant day-of-event
• Attend committee planning meetings and volunteer trainings
Event Registration
• Assist with the registration process, mailings and packet pick-up
• Prep materials for packet mailings
• Administrative tasks such as copying, sorting, envelope stuffing, etc.
• Answer participant e-mails/resolve issues
Marketing
• Write web and email copy, blog posts, social media posts, print layout, etc.
• Coordinate distribution of brochures and posters
• Assist with sponsorship execution
The Active Transportation Alliance is a nonprofit advocacy organization that works to improve conditions for bicycling, walking and transit and engage people in healthy and active ways to get around.
Qualified candidates should have an interest in event management, volunteer management, marketing, and/or general nonprofit work. Interest in bicycling, mass transit and pedestrian issues is a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing, communications, time-management and organizational skills with an interest in working as a strong contributor to a fast-paced team. The position may also require physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
This internship is for the spring semester (February – mid June) with a possible extension through the summer and is onsite at our office in downtown Chicago. To fully experience the benefits of the internship, the candidate must be available and onsite for the Bike the Drive weekend, Friday, May 22 through Sunday, May 24, 2015. Additional time commitment three weeks prior and the weekend of the event is expected.
Class credit and a stipend are available to the qualified intern who can commit to 10-20 hours per week for the semester-long internship.

CSTE/CDC/ASPPH Applied Epidemiology Fellowship Program
CSTE, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), established this fellowship to train recent graduates in the expanding field of applied epidemiology. The CDC/CSTE Fellowship is designed for recent or impending master’s or doctoral-level graduates in epidemiology or a related field who are interested in the practice of public health at the state or local level. While the program provides rigorous training for its participants, it is also designed with flexibility in order to meet the particular interests of the fellow. Fellows are matched to a state health department for a two-year fellowship position based on program area of interest.

Health and Wellness Manager
The Health
and Wellness Manager leads a small team focused on improving the health and
well-being of individual United Methodist clergy and lay workers, and their
families, as well as the “health” of congregations and the Church. The manager
is responsible for the design, development, and execution of a multi-year
wellness strategy.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, leadership buy-in, and oversight of a comprehensive health and wellness strategy, goals and objectives; strategy should encompass five dimensions of health (physical, emotional, social, spiritual and financial), and focus on the individual and the Church (local church, district, and conference levels).
- Oversee team in managing all aspects of health and wellness products and service offerings, including design, development, implementation, communications, training, monitoring/evaluating, change management coordination, and service delivery/vendor management; may include some direct vendor and program management.
- Oversee the development and execution of metrics strategy to determine the impact of individual and integrated products/services; and leverage with strategic development and planning.
- Lead team in providing consultation to conferences, seminaries and other UMC-affiliated organizations regarding various health and wellness topics, and developing and implementing a population health management strategy, including implementation of local health and wellness initiatives.
- In partnership with conferences, lead team in design, development, implementation, measuring, etc. of conference, district, and/or local church health & wellness strategies, including supports for staff-parish relations committees and local church health ministries, as well as strategy/ management supports at district and conference level.
- Serve as key wellness leader to initiate, cultivate and sustain strong relationships with key leadership and health and wellness stakeholders within and external to organization; including establishing and executing health & wellness strategies with other key UMC entities and Church leaders, as well as benchmarking with other denominations and industry experts.
- Lead team in developing the Center for Health wellness brand; and leadership of the Center for Health within the UMC denomination as a center of excellence for health & well-being.
- Assess the impact(s) of the Affordable Care Act to the overall strategic direction of the wellness programs offered. Serve as team leader, coach, mentor in managing all aspects of staff performance; including sustaining a supportive work environment conducive to staff motivation, growth/development, and overall satisfaction/fulfillment.
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years clinical experience or experience leading the creation and delivery of successful, comparable health and wellness programs within a not for profit, faith based organization or corporate setting
- 3+ years of experience managing and coaching a staff
- Proven experience as health and wellness programs leader; with strategy development and execution; including ability to concurrently manage multiple, complex initiatives.
- Aptitude for health & wellness data, including clinical prevalence and biometrics, and for related management reporting and value add presentations related to data.
- The ability to travel domestically 15-20% of the time
This position will be
based out of the Glenview, IL office
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced health-related degree (e.g. R.D., PsyD, R.N., B.S.N., M.S.W, MPH, N.D., D.O., or MS/MA in Health Education or Health Psychology)
