Background
The City of Evanston Health Department strives to provide a safe swimming environment for Evanston Residents and visitors patronizing our beaches. The City of Evanston maintains 7.5 miles of Lake Michigan’s shoreline which include 6 swimming beaches.
Responsibilities of the Internship:
- Collect and analyze water samples taken daily during weekdays
- Perform routine sanitary surveys of beaches
- Log information into an Illinois Department of Public Health database
- Report beach closures due to high levels of coliform
- Prepare report of all beach activity for 2015
- Perform other duties as requested
Internship Requirements:
- Excellent database and MS Office Skills, including data entry and management
- Laboratory science coursework
- Excellent work ethic
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Reliable car (must provide own transportation to sample sites)
- Minimum education level: Undergraduate Student
