Health and Wellness Manager

The Health and Wellness Manager leads a small team focused on improving the health and well-being of individual United Methodist clergy and lay workers, and their families, as well as the “health” of congregations and the Church. The manager is responsible for the design, development, and execution of a multi-year wellness strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, leadership buy-in, and oversight of a comprehensive health and wellness strategy, goals and objectives; strategy should encompass five dimensions of health (physical, emotional, social, spiritual and financial), and focus on the individual and the Church (local church, district, and conference levels).
  • Oversee team in managing all aspects of health and wellness products and service offerings, including design, development, implementation, communications, training, monitoring/evaluating, change management coordination, and service delivery/vendor management; may include some direct vendor and program management. 
  • Oversee the development and execution of metrics strategy to determine the impact of individual and integrated products/services; and leverage with strategic development and planning. 
  •  Lead team in providing consultation to conferences, seminaries and other UMC-affiliated organizations regarding various health and wellness topics, and developing and implementing a population health management strategy, including implementation of local health and wellness initiatives.
  • In partnership with conferences, lead team in design, development, implementation, measuring, etc. of conference, district, and/or local church health & wellness strategies, including supports for staff-parish relations committees and local church health ministries, as well as strategy/ management supports at district and conference level.
  • Serve as key wellness leader to initiate, cultivate and sustain strong relationships with key leadership and health and wellness stakeholders within and external to organization; including establishing and executing health & wellness strategies with other key UMC entities and Church leaders, as well as benchmarking with other denominations and industry experts.
  • Lead team in developing the Center for Health wellness brand; and leadership of the Center for Health within the UMC denomination as a center of excellence for health & well-being.
  • Assess the impact(s) of the Affordable Care Act to the overall strategic direction of the wellness programs offered. Serve as team leader, coach, mentor in managing all aspects of staff performance; including sustaining a supportive work environment conducive to staff motivation, growth/development, and overall satisfaction/fulfillment. 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  •  8+ years clinical experience or experience leading the creation and delivery of successful, comparable health and wellness programs within a not for profit,  faith based organization or corporate setting
  • 3+ years of experience managing and coaching a staff  
  • Proven experience as health and wellness programs leader; with strategy development and execution; including ability to concurrently manage multiple, complex initiatives.
  • Aptitude for health & wellness data, including clinical prevalence and biometrics, and for related management reporting and value add presentations related to data.
  • The ability to travel domestically 15-20% of the time

This position will be based out of the Glenview, IL office

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced health-related degree (e.g. R.D., PsyD, R.N., B.S.N., M.S.W, MPH, N.D., D.O., or MS/MA in Health Education or Health Psychology)
  •  Knowledge of health/wellness trends, prevention guidelines and industry best practices
  •  Creativity and passion for Health Promotion
  • Personal commitment to health and wellness
  •  Knowledge of faith based organizations
  •  Nutrition, mental health, or behavioral economics background a plus
