Research Assistant Position at Northwestern

Division of Behavioral Medicine The Behavioral Medicine Division within Northwestern University’s Department of Preventive Medicine seeks applicants for a new full time research assistantship. Successful applicants will perform biomedical and social-behavioral research in support of several ongoing clinical trials aimed at the development of technology-assisted healthy lifestyle interventions to improve poor habits related to diet, exercise, sedentary time, sleep, and stress. All current trials deliver intervention components via smartphones or websites, and other cutting edge technology, including accelerometers and other wireless sensors, to augment more traditional in-person or telephone coaching.

The research assistant completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy and procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). Specific Responsibilities: The research assistant will have direct interaction with study participants during study recruitment, obtaining informed consent, scheduling and conducting study visits, and collecting data. The research assistant will also receive training in delivering the assessment and intervention protocols. Study responsibilities include collecting anthropometric data, conducting health coaching, and guiding participants through technology based interventions. The research assistant will communicate with key personnel and participants to maintain project study flow; maintain detailed records which may include: collecting, extracting and entering data; preparing basic charts and graphs; performing scientific literature searches in support of research; training other research staff to interview/test participants, performing related duties as required or assigned. Research assistants become acquainted and able to guide trial participants through using trial smartphones, websites, and other technologically-delivered study materials and feedback.

  Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a social or health science plus 2 years practical research experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired; Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants and must re-certify every 3 years.
