Chicagoland Organizing Manager Position

Position: Chicagoland Organizing Manager
Position Type: Permanent, Full Time
Areas of focus: Organizing
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Reports to: Executive Director
Travel Requirements: Travel is expected to occur on a regular basis throughout the greater Chicagoland region and in collar counties/downstate as deemed necessary or appropriate by the Executive Director.
Description of Position:
The Chicagoland Organizing Manager will play an integral role in leading the centerpiece of ICAH's strategic plan. They will maintain ICAH's stakeholder networks in Family, School, and Healthcare systems in the Chicagoland area, while building partnerships in Central and Southern Illinois. This person should be able to both think broadly & strategically about improving programs, policies, and procedures that directly impact the lives of young people and also be detail-oriented and organized about the implementation & structures necessary to expand our organizing strategy.
About the Organization:
The Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH) is a network of empowered youth & allied adults who transform public consciousness and increase the capacity of Family, School, and Healthcare systems to support the sexual health, rights, and identities of youth. We envision a world in which all young adults use their power to achieve health and well-being for their own lives and for their communities.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Manage and sustain three stakeholder networks comprised of youth and adults in Family, School, and Healthcare systems
  • Conduct environmental scans in Chicagoland communities and targeted one on ones with stakeholders in Family, School, and Healthcare systems to understand attitudes and beliefs around the sexual health, rights, and identities of youth
  • Serve as a liaison between education and organizing strategies within the organization to streamline organizational work
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with city- and county-wide coalitions to increase organizational presence and amplify youth voice
  • Manage an Organizing budget to sustain Family, School, and Healthcare networks
  • Participate in evaluation strategies to strengthen the work of each network
  • Deliver progress reports and other documentation, as required by ICAH supervisor and other reporting requirements
  • Remain abreast on local and national policies related to family, school, and healthcare systems and provide updates & actions for the organization
  • Engage in and promote communications tactics to amplify ICAH's work
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to reproductive justice, various organizing models & tactics, running successful campaigns, working with diverse identities & communities, and build strong youth-adult & community partnerships. The person in this role should be detail-oriented, organized, task-driven, and deadline-focused but also possess an appreciation for a collaborative working environment that views all work as strategically interconnected.
Experience:
  • At least 2-3 years in a mid-level role that required staff or intern supervision, budgeting, program planning, evaluation, and overseeing the completion of deliverables. The ability to lead and motivate a team is required.
  • Additional required experience:
    • Group facilitation skills
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written & verbal
    • Experience building a base of supporters and leaders to mobilize around specific actions
    • Highly motivated and independent, yet team-oriented
    • Working in the adolescent sexuality field, including knowledge of various sexual health, sexual identities, sexual & reproductive rights, and sexuality education topics
    • Working in partnership with youth and adults to build strategic campaigns
Travel:
This position may require nights and weekends in the Chicagoland area; a driver's license is required
Education:
A Master's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Health Education, or similar is preferred
Technology Proficiency:
  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & internet-based email applications is required
  • Knowledge of a familiarity with various social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and their use for advocacy and base building is preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Staff usually works in an office environment but the purpose of the specific projects may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours. Schedules will be negotiated accordingly
