Project Manager posting @ Rush University Medical Center


Position Highlights: 
The Project Manager supports a range of health information technology data integration and implementation projects aligning with the overall strategic objectives of  Rush Health, an organization whose members include Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Rush Copley Medical Center and approximately 800 physicians who are on the medical staff of its hospital members.  The Project Manager serves a key function in project definition, project planning and execution, and monitoring progress.  This individual will work with the technical team, business/clinical teams and external vendors (when applicable) to organize and plan projects, develop timelines for implementation, monitor project progress, and track and resolve issues for active projects..  Areas of focus include clinical performance improvement, accountable care, population health management, and health information exchange.  The successful candidate must demonstrate critical analysis skills, organization and project management skills.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Prepare detailed project plans for health IT projects, working with the development team and business users to identify key steps, establish time frames and monitor activities
  • Follow up with project team members (technical and business) to monitor status of planned activities and keep project on schedule.
  • Ensure project data is accurate and available for review by management and make sure that management is proactively informed of potential problems and risks so that they can be mitigated or resolved before they become insurmountable.
  • Develops project template plans, including inventory of time estimates for routine project tasks
  • Monitors project efficiencies and compliance with definitions of project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Conducts project evaluations and assessment of results
  • Follows up with new project requests to get them defined, prioritized and scheduled.
  • Coordinates testing of new applications and changes to existing applications to ensure integrity and quality of data while providing and/or assisting in training of system users.
  • Assists programmers and business analysts in analyzing and resolving problems. 
  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Monitor development of specifications and establish priorities for accomplishing design and testing of various projects.
  • Assists in performing detailed requirements gathering, analysis, process, and data flow diagramming for BI reports and projects of varying levels of complexity. 
  • Coordinates activities of cross-functional teams in order to achieve goals of BI and IT projects, including work plans, system design and testing of solutions. 
  • Support technical development of BI reports, applications and other tools. 
  • Assist in writing, validating and executing test plans for programs, applications and/or operating systems
  • Ensure overall security of reports and applications.  This includes developing an understanding of Rush Health’s security standards and testing to ensure they are integrated correctly in all reporting and BI tools.
  • Assist project sponsors in the interpretation and use of the results; ensure that the data is understood by users. 
  • Prepare supporting documentation, reports and presentation materials.
  • Coordinate prototype review, integration, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT). 
  • Develop health care subject matter expertise related to specific products, data elements, business processes, data marts, and BI applications. 
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of the strategic alignment of health IT solutions with business objectives
  • This will be demonstrated by accuracy and efficiency in developing health IT projects, as well as demonstrated expertise through continuing education through Rush Health or other sources.

Position Qualifications Include: 
Required Education and Skills 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Healthcare Business Administration or a minimum of 8 years of project management experience (in lieu of degree).  Advanced training preferred. 
  • A minimum of 4 years of direct work experience as a project manager in a healthcare setting that includes managing implementations of medium to large moderately complex projects.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills required. 
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem solving skills required. 
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools required.
  • Software training and implementation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of PMBOK preferred
  • Preference for project management training and/or certification (PMP).

Technology Requirements

  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and Visio required. 
  • Experience with Sharepoint preferred. 
  • Experience in the Microsoft data warehouse and business intelligence solutions preferred, including SSRS, SSAS, and MDX. Equivalent experience (e.g. Cognos, Business Objects) will be considered.
  • Preference for database management experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005
  • Experience with Project Management and/or issue tracking software preferred.
