Up2Us Regional Director: Western Region

Description
A leadership and fundraising position for a social entrepreneur who is passionate, intelligent, proactive, with strong interpersonal skills, and who dreams of using his/her talents to build a national movement that inspires the success of young people across America through sports.
Up2Us is a coalition of more than 650 nonprofit organizations that believe in the power of sports to fight childhood obesity, end academic failure, and reduce gang participation. Up2Us provides its coalition members with resources, services, and technical assistance that help them better deliver and expand high-quality sports-based youth development (SBYD) programming in some of the nation's most underserved communities. Up2Us also oversees a national service program called Up2Us COACH Across America, which challenges young adults to spend a year giving back to their community as coach-mentors. Up2Us COACH Across America will place 400 coach-mentors in 125 communities this fall.

Job Description
The Up2Us Regional Director (RD) will be based in Los Angeles and responsible for fundraising and overseeing all aspects of Up2Us service coordination for member organizations and Up2Us COACHES in the Western Region of the United States, which includes the key target cities of LA, San Francisco and Seattle. Overarching goals of the RD will be to: 1) develop and carry out a fundraising plan with corporations, foundation, individuals, and state/local agencies to support Up2Us services; 2) support the placement, training, and development of more than 100 Up2Us COACH Across America coaches in the western zone of the United States; 3) increase Up2Us member organizations and connect Up2Us member organizations to resources; 4) support, develop, and expand SBYD training to Up2Us members and coaches in the region; 5) conduct outreach to heighten local awareness of Up2Us and its members; 6) oversee special events, like national service days, and corporate engagement events with key funders; and 7) act in coordination with the directives and priorities of the Up2Us National staff.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee a regional fundraising plan that includes corporate, foundation, state, and individual donors, as well as in-kind gifts (e.g., product and equipment) to support Up2Us and its member organizations. 
  •  Maintain relationships with key sports-based youth development (SBYD) stakeholders, including agencies, foundations, corporations, professional sports leagues and teams, and government agencies; and actively engage these stakeholders in the SBYD movement. 
  •  Expand Up2Us communications and PR in the region by conducting internal communications with all Up2Us member organizations, executing high profile events with Up2Us COACHES, developing a social media plan, and being a spokesperson to news outlets and other stakeholders.
  • Work with Up2Us members to develop a regional strategic plan to address their greatest needs at the local level, e.g., funding, transportation, space, training, etc.; and manage staff to execute plan.
  • Work with the Up2Us Center for Sports-Based Youth Development to oversee the implementation of high quality training for Up2Us Member organizations and coaches to ensure they achieve quality program outcomes. Implement a train-the-trainers model, whereby local trainers with expertise in youth development are engaged to deliver services that benefit the youth sports community. Provide local oversight and expertise to the annual Coach Training Institute in Los Angeles and to additional booster trainings that take place in cities within the region.
  • Support all national marketing initiatives, including the Up2Us Coach of the Year Award that recognizes outstanding Up2Us COACHES.
  • Manage a staff to provide oversight and quality control to the Up2Us COACH Across America program to ensure that the program meets the expectations and requirements of funders that include AmeriCorps, the Department of Justice, and national corporations.
  • Participate in planning any special events on behalf of Up2Us COACH Across America and/or other national initiatives, such as National Days of Service.
  • Manage staff to oversee expansion of active Up2Us member organizations in the Western Region by engaging in outreach and participating in events to encourage membership in the Up2Us coalition; and by developing a communication plan with members to encourage their use of Up2Us services.
  • Contribute feedback, suggestions, and creative ideas for the ongoing growth of the organization. 
 Qualifications 
  •  Amazing energy, dedication, and belief in the power of sports to benefit children 
  • Minimum 15-20 years experience in nonprofit development, youth sports, and/or community development or related fields 
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task efficiently 
  • Attention to detail in planning 
  • Experience managing a small staff and motivating everyone to share in success 
  • Ability to oversee large and small events, including media and sports events 
  • Team player
