Epidemiologist: American Cancer Society

Great Opportunity for Master of Public Health Epidemiology major

Description:
Analyst will work closely with doctoral and other senior level epidemiologists to design, conduct and publish original epidemiologic research on the causes, prevention and control of cancer. The analyst will also contribute to the team of research analysts who share in program review, analysis documentation, derived variable creation, and support for external collaborations. In addition, the analyst will help advance the group's collective expertise in statistical programming and epidemiologic methods through independent study, internal presentations and written memos. The analyt may also contribute to collection and management of data and biospecimens for the Programs prospective studies. Design and conduct epidemiologic studies using large American Cancer Society datasets (Cancer Prevention Study I, Cancer Prevention Study II, the Cancer Prevention Study II Nutrition Survey, and Cancer Prevention Study-3) and public datasets using various computer resources and statistical software.
  • Provide statistical programming support and database analysis for collaborative epidemiologic studies with outside researchers, as needed.
  • Document analytic programs and data management to facilitate record-keeping and use by others. 
  • Conduct literature searches on selected topics.
  • Contribute to general data/biospecimen collection and management as needed 
  • Assist in responding to correspondence and preparing presentations.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in epidemiology (MPH) or related field, and at least one year programming experience in analytic work, preferably in a scientific or epidemiologic research environment.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to produce high quality work independently.
  • Highly motivated with strong attention to detail and organization skills. 
  • Strong computer knowledge and proficient in SAS. 
  • Strong quantitative skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
  •  Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate in a cross-functional environment. 
  • Experience in electronic data management, particularly in obtaining and processing electronic data. 
  • Experience managing, cleaning and/or conducting analyses on "omics" datasets such as genomics datasets is preferred but not required.
