Research Study Recruiter: Chicago

The Healthy Youths Program and the Community Outreach Intervention Projects at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a full-time Research Specialist for a federally-funded study to prevent HIV/AIDS among juvenile offenders. The study is a randomized controlled trial to evaluate an innovative and uniquely tailored HIV/AIDS, mental health, and substance use program designed for 13-17 year old males and females on probation.

Recruitment and retention responsibilities:
  • Recruit, track, and assess participating youth for enrollment and follow-up in the research study 
  • Make contact with youths’ legal guardians to explain the study, retrieve consent, and maintain an ongoing relationship with the family 
  • Conduct baseline and follow-up assessments with youth participating in the study 
  • Maintain communication with youth using various communication media (telephone, email, and texts) to schedule appointments, send reminders, and verify contact information throughout the study.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have:
  • Bachelors degree required, advanced degree in a relevant area such as public health, psychology, or social work preferred 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional professionalism 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to worth autonomously and complete job responsibilities independently 
  • Experience in the collection, verification and management of data for a longitudinal study
  •  Experience working with youth preferred
Interventions will occur at various sites in the community (probation centers, homes, libraries, and schools) and travel to community-based intervention sites throughout the city is necessary using a personal vehicle. Some program activities will occur in the evenings. Candidates must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend hours. Salary is commensurate with experience.
