Loyola Seeks Grad Student Office Assistant

Loyola University Chicago’s Office of Sustainability is looking for a Loyola graduate student to assist in the Office’s day-to-day office responsibilities. In addition, the graduate assistant will support outreach activities related to various programs.
The Office of Sustainability is located within the soon to open Institute of Environmental Sustainability on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus. This is a part-time position and the student will be expected to work 20 hours per week starting the mid-August 2013.
The hired candidate will work during the fall and spring semester, with potential summer employment. We are seeking someone who is hard-working, is committed to fostering environmental sustainability, has strong computer skills, and is comfortable taking the initiative once familiar with project(s). The student will receive a student stipend as well as partial tuition remission renewable for up to two years.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the planning of meetings and conferences including securing meeting space locations, ordering refreshments, and preparing agendas and meeting minutes. (Estimate 25%)
  • Assists with the design and update of communication and marketing tools including newsletters, websites, social media, blog entries and printed materials. (Estimate 35%)
  • Support, and occasionally lead, outreach activities. This may include facilitating meetings or workshops, attending and exhibiting at various campus events, promoting fellowship/scholarship programs, and promoting sustainability programs. (Estimate 20%)
  • Works closely with the Institute’s staff on administrative tasks as needed. (Estimate 20%)


Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must:

  • Have advanced MS Word processing, MS Excel or Spreadsheets, MS PowerPoint skills. Be an adept user of Internet, email, social networking systems and other office automation systems.
  • Possess strong organization and communication skills.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative manner with IES faculty and staff.
  • Be able to work independently, with minimal direction to accomplish tasks.
  • Be self-motivated, creative, committed to advancing sustainability at Loyola and demonstrate leadership abilities.
