Beachwater Practicum/Internship


Background
The City of Evanston Health Department strives to provide a safe swimming environment for Evanston Residents and visitors patronizing our beaches. The City of Evanston maintains 7.5 miles of Lake Michigan’s shoreline which include 6 swimming beaches.

Responsibilities of the Internship:
  • Collect and analyze water samples taken daily during weekdays
  • Perform routine sanitary surveys of beaches
  • Log information into an Illinois Department of Public Health database
  • Report beach closures due to high levels of coliform
  • Prepare report of all beach activity for 2015
  • Perform other duties as requested


Internship Requirements:
  • Excellent database and MS Office Skills, including data entry and management
  • Laboratory science coursework
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Reliable car (must provide own transportation to sample sites)
  • Minimum education level: Undergraduate Student
